Monkey D. Luffy is the main protagonist of one of the most popular Anime and Manga series by Eiichiro Oda “One Piece”. Luffy always wanted to be the greatest pirate of all time and the only way to fulfill this dream was to find and capture the legendary hidden treasure called One Piece in search of which many pirates have lost their lives.
But thanks to Luffy’s accidental consumption of a devil fruit called “Gomu Gomu no Mi” which makes his skin so flexible like a rubber, he is now more hell bent on finding One Piece than ever. But even with his new superpower, it’d be a suicide mission to take on this great challenge on his own so decides to make a new crew.
Luffy becomes the captain of the new crew called “Straw Hat Pirates” and so the journey to find the legendary treasure One Piece and become the greatest pirate of all starts.
Early Life of Monkey D. Luffy
Monkey D. Luffy was on May 5 to the famous pirate Monkey D. Dragon and his wife. Luffy’s grandfather Monkey D. Garp wanted him to become a great pirate one day so he started Luffy’s training from a very young age. He would leave Luffy alone in the dark forest and deep seas as part of his hard core training to make him strong. Luffy’s brothers, Ace and Sabo also trained with him but after their fight against a rival pirate crew, Sabo went missing.
Luffy’s training made him strong and now the only dream Luffy had was to succeed the king of pirates Gold Roger who previously claimed the legendary treasure by finding it himself and becoming the greatest pirate of the blue sea.
Although, Luffy has been training and fighting from a very young age, he does not seem to be maturing enough and still acts like a child. He has a completely care free and stupid nature, Luffy has hard time making sense of situations and even the simplest of things amazes and excites him.
Luffy feels like thinking a lot can make him sick, but he is also very stubborn and wants to get to the bottom of things and because of fighting his whole life, bloodshed and battles doesn’t even make him bat an eye.
But regardless of his careless and childish nature, he is very loyal and compassionate towards his friends, which makes him a great leader whose personality attracts others, even the rival crew members.
Monkey D. Luffy’s Great Adventure
One day, when Luffy was on one of his pirate visits, he mistakenly ate a Devil Fruit “Gomu Gomu no mi” which gave his skin flexibility of a rubber but took out his ability to swim, forever.
At the age of 17, Luffy decided to sail out to the dangerous Grand Line to find the legendary One Piece treasure but first he needed a crew for a sail like that. Luffy sent out invites to everyone who would like to join him in this journey of a lifetime. But knowing Luffy’s nature most of them ignored or rejected his invites but nonetheless, he was able to recruit 10 members for his crew and became the captain of this new crew he called “Straw Hat Pirates”.
Soon after their sail started, Luffy’s crew confronted many powerful rival pirate crews from the east blue sea but they were able to fight off most of the rival crews eventually becoming the emerging future threat to the most powerful pirate crews and even the World Government itself which raised the bounties to an enormous number of 1,500,000,000 berries.
Luffy also became one of the eleven rookie pirates to cross the Red Line triggering the alarm of the rival crews and the World Government.
